Project genesis

We are annoyed by Noise Pollution. How about you?

How we got Inspired

The Messerer brothers grew up with a father who has almost complete hearing loss. This increased their attentiveness to loud environments and to the problem of sound pollution as a whole.

As experienced deployers in the field of hyperlocal environmental data, they recognized the benefits of using blockchain as an incentive mechanism for citizen science projects. However, they also recognized the limitations of hardware-based projects, which often require a high initial investment for users and create network growth barriers. With the assistance of their scientific advisor Hasan, who is a Ph.D. candidate in acoustics, Thomas and Theo saw an opportunity to address the issue of noise pollution by developing a smartphone app that would allow billions of citizens to participate without financial barriers. Envisioning a truly decentralized citizen science network for everyone. This is how the idea for Silencio was born.
